We have been harvesting the radishes for a little while now. We made our first donation to the Dixie Care and Share a week or so ago. I remembered to take a picture before I dropped them off:
I think our donation was about two thirds of a bushel(greens included). I think we will be harvesting peas really soon too! Thank you to everyone who has been helping keep the garden weeded! I really need to post an updated picture of our garden.

We have tomatoes!
The Hurricane High School gardening class sprouted a bunch of seeds for us. They came out today and planted a little over 170 tomato plants! They also donated a few more tomatoes plants as well as peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, and cucumbers. We are excited to plant all these beautiful vegetable plants at our next meeting--Wednesday, May 12th at 6:00 pm. If any one wants to join us, you would definitely be welcome!
(I will try and become better remembering my camera. Then you can see how great the garden is looking!)

Garden Fire!!
We have a young crop of farmers that were introduced to life on a farm (garden) tonight. We gathered limbs and other unwanted debris to make a pint-sized bonfire. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows while we worked on a few more garden details. It was a lot of fun!
Thank you everyone who came, participated, and brought things to eat.

We Planted!
Thank you to everyone who came to help today! We got a lot done. First we gathered all the sticks, rocks, and other debris to clean up the area.
Some of the things being hauled were a little more precious than garbage or debris, but we still had fun hauling it!

Then, John Bramall brought his tractor and big tiller. He spread all the compost and worked it in the ground for us. Thank you John!
Once the ground was all ready, we made our rows.
Then, we planted! HOORAY!
The product of our work!

First Meeting
The first meeting regarding the garden will be held at the community garden on Saturday, February 20 at 9:00 a.m. Come ready to work!
How is the Garden Organized?
We would like to divide the area into approximately thirty-five plots. A person or group of people will be assigned to each plot to take care of it during the growing season of this garden.
Taking care of the garden will include a variety of responsibilities, especially weeding.
Volunteers should plan to spend at least one hour per week attending to the needs of their plot. These plots are not personal plots. We will plant items in large areas, sharing and distributing all of the produce amongst volunteers and those in need.
Volunteers will also be expected to bring their own tools for working in the garden. The organizers are also volunteers and will not be liable for lost or stolen tools or other items.
If you are interested in working in the garden, you will need to fill out a city waiver form. If you are interested in this project and would like to secure a spot please email hurricanegarden@gmail.com.

What is the Community Garden?
This garden is for all who would like to participate.
Some people want to know how to garden.
Some people know how to garden.
Our goal is to get those people together, so they can all have a positive learning and teaching experience.
People who help with the garden will receive the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor. We will also be donating a portion of the produce to the Dixie Care and Share here in town.
The Catholic Church is allowing us to use a plot of land here in town for this garden. (Thank you Catholic Church!)
